THE BIRTH OF CLICKSHAKE
After months of discussion Steve Castro (entropicorder.net - creator of Paradox Embrace) and I have decided to join forces to create a new gaming entity.

Enter ClickShake Games - www.clickshakegames.com. ClickShake will be the home to all our future game projects - online, mobile and downloadable.
I'm very excited about all the features we have planned. The site is a work in progress, but we have lots of new updates coming down the pipeline.
Stay tuned!

GAME OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS!
Jayisgames.com nominated A Small Favor and The Several Journeys of Reemus: Chapter 3 for 2009 Adventure Game & Point and Click Game of the Year respectively. Unfortunately with my melted computer I missed all the voting! Maybe the stars will align and I'll win! Hey it was a pleasure just being nominated, thanks for the love Jay!
COMPUTER MELTDOWN 2010
Well I started off December with high hopes of constant updates, instead my computer had a complete meltdown. Luckily after weeks of waiting the computer surgeons managed to save all my data and set me up with some tasty new hardware. So long story short, I'm back online!
After weeks of being away from the warm glow of my computer monitor it's really nice to be back. Unfortunately during my downtime I missed the release of PARADOX EMBRACE. The long awaited platformer by Steve Castro that I did all the art/animation for. It's a sweet game so if you haven't checked it out yet, play it now!

The one good thing that came out of the forced downtime was that it allowed me to write all the puzzles for the new Reemus game without the added distraction of email or web surfing. So you can expect a tighter, deeper gaming experience. I'm hoping to start full production on that one very soon! I'll keep you posted with screenshots as that unfolds.
In other news, I was invited to attend this years Flash Gaming Summit in San Francisco. I'm stoked at the prospect of finally meeting some of the people I've only talked through email with all these years. If you're attending too, make sure you say hi!
Once again there is an awards show celebrating all the best in flash gaming. It just so happens I had three games out in 2009 - A Small Favor, Several Journeys of Reemus Chapter 3 and Another Small Favor. If any of those games tickled your fancy, let your voice be heard and cast a nomination for one or all of them :)

Well back to the grind, time to make up for lost time!

SCHOOLISM or HOW I LEARNED TO DIGITALLY PAINT IN 12 WEEKS!
For anyone looking to beef up their art skills I have to give a big shout out to Schoolism.com.
In September I enrolled in the Digital Painting Class taught by award winning illustrator Bobby Chiu. (Who is currently doing design work for Tim Burton's "Alice" movie).
Due to my crazy life I opted for the self study course which allows you to do the classes on your own schedule. The only mandate I had was to finish all assignments by December 15th.
All classes were done through pre-recorded videos which you watch online and follow along with using photoshop. There is 9 classes in all averaging about 90 minutes, each introduced a new painting technique ranging from visualization to custom brushes. Each class built on the last culminating in a final assignment that used all the techniques you've learned.
All in all the course was a lot of fun and I learned a ton. I handed in my final assignment this week and it's easily the best thing I've ever painted. Check out my Bobby Chiu Abominable Snowman!

I really can't say enough good things about the course. Bobby Chiu's instruction is clear and concise, he really spends the time making sure you understand the techniques completely. The best part is if you really struggle with a concept you can always rewind or rewatch the video.
I feel like I've gained a whole new skill set which I can't wait to unleash on the next Reemus game! Thanks Bobby!
For all my fellow artists, if you're looking for a skill boost I highly recommend this course.

For anyone who writes, draws or does anything creative for a living, this is a funny read and hits the nail on the head pretty accurately.
